Thieves take rare currency in raids

DETECTIVES are investigating the theft of hundreds of pounds worth of rare currency from an office hit twice by thieves in one week.

Around £150 worth of South African Rand and £100 worth of Omani Rials was taken from the firm on Corporation Street, Sowerby Bridge.

Laptops and office equipment was also taken during the break-ins, which happened on Wednesday night and Thursday night.

Police believe travel agents and banks in the area could be asked to exchange these kinds of currencies and are urging them to be vigilant. Detective Sergeant Terry O’Keefe, from Calderdale CID said: “We would ask anyone with information about the burglaries or who is approached with these kinds of currencies to call us on 0845 6060606.”
