Three weeks left to nominate for Community Spirit Awards

THE deadline is getting closer for your chance to nominate a special person or organisation worthy of a Community Spirit award.

We want to celebrate community spirit in Calderdale but need you to nominate those deserving of their place in the spotlight.

The glittering awards ceremony will take place in July but nominations close in three weeks - on May 25.

This year will be the first Community Spirit Awards.

For the past four years, we have recognised those who have done marvellous work to both the community and environment.

But so strong is the community spirit in Calderdale, this year we’re focusing entirely on those who make the area a special place to live.

Previous winners have come from all walks of life and all sorts of jobs and backgrounds, but they all share an overwhelming pride for the area and think it’s a fantastic place to live and work.

The people we’re looking to recognise in these awards are those who enhance our community - and the caring, compassionate and creative people who work tirelessly and often without reward to make this place better.

Award categories are Best New Charity, Public Servant Award, the ‘Little Gem Award’ - the Young Community Champion, Good Neighbour Award, Outstanding Individual Achievement or Lifetime Achievement, Community School, Investment in the Community, Community Champion, Diamond Jubilee Charity of the Year, and Arts And Culture Organisation.

Now is the time to give them a big pat on the back - so send in your nominations soon.

The ceremony takes place at Berties in Elland on July 5, hosted by BBC Look North presenter Claire Frisby.
