Todmorden Butcher Nick commended for his brilliant bangers

A butcher from Todmorden is frying-high after being highly-commended at the UK Sausage Week Awards.

Nick Fielden received the accolade for his Italian sausage in the Best Independent Butcher, North West category.

The 48-year-old, from Todmorden, said: “I’ve had various people telling me I should enter the awards, so I did and ended up winning.

“It’s a massive thing, it’s just got bigger and bigger. It’s a multi-million pound industry, so to get the award for being the Best Independent Butcher in the North West is great, not just for me but for Tod Market.

“Obviously the market has been in the running for the best British high street this year, so it’s an accolade for not just me but the town as a whole.”

Nick, who has worked at the shop for 32 years, taking over two years ago, says the sausages contain fennel, garlic, parsley, nutmeg, black pepper and a hint of chilli flake.

“I also run an Italian restaurant in Rochdale and they are very popular there too,” he added.
