Todmorden flood victim's new flooring is stolen from outside her home - police issue appeal

Police are seeking information from anyone who may have seen anything of the theft, which took place between around 9pm to 9.30pm on Wednesday, March 2, night and 9am on Thursday, March 3, at Lennox Road, Cornholme, Todmorden.

The woman’s home is one of just a few properties which were affected on that road when part of a railway embankment collapsed into the street, allowing water to pour off.

The heartbroken householder, who did not wish to be named, said the Clic-loc wooden flooring had had to be stored outside while her floor dried out thoroughly enough for the new dark pine wood tiles to be laid.

She believes it has possibly been stolen by someone who knows the area and the town well enough.

“The flooring has been taken overnight and I think it must be somebody who knew it was there because it was not visible from the main road. It had to be stored outside and it was heavy - I couldn’t lift it,” she said.

“I got up this morning all excited it as going to be fitted and it’s gone. They had left me one packet of it - talk about rubbing salt in the wound.”

In all eleven packets of the flooring were stolen and she hoped if anyone was offered it, or knew something about what had happened, they would help the police with information.

The materials were expensive at a difficult time for a person whose home had been flooded, said the householder - who has been helping at the Todmorden Flooding Hub in the aftermath of the Boxing Day floods.
