Three young supporters have been chosen by the club to be mascots for the Shaymen’s game against Grimsby in the FA Trophy final.

They had entered a contest to say why they are the most deserving fans - and will now lead the team out wearing a new club strip for the first time at the national stadium.

Alisha Davies, Elis Oldroyd and Adam Heslop were told they had been selected as mascots this week in a surprise visit by Town skipper Nicky Wroe.

Alisha, 10, of Ash Green Primary School, Mixenden, Halifax, was very confident that her team will win: “5-2 because we are a lot better than Grimsby.”

Head teacher Mungo Sheppard said: “I can’t think of anyone more deserving than Alisha is, leading the players out at Wembley in front of tens of thousands of people is just amazing.”

Warley Town School pupil Elis Oldroyd, eight, also was excited to be playing a part of Town’s big day.

His dad Jason said: “He’s been coming to the Shay since he was three, its always been his dream to play for Halifax and he really wants to walk out on that pitch at Wembley.”

Adam Heslop, 22, of Pellon, is a disabled fan and met Mr Wroe at the Shay to be given the news.

He will join his heroes as they prepare to kick off for the FA Trophy on May 22 and said: “I can’t wait.”

David Phelps, FC Halifax Town’s community coach said: “It’s been a really good day, seeing the kids. It really is the best day of their lives and they’ll all be making history. Mr Wroe added: “I’m really privileged to put smiles on these children’s faces particularly after a disappointing weekend, hopefully we can put some more smiles on faces when we face Grimsby.”
