Five weeks of roadworks as 50-year-old water pipe is replaced

On Tuesday May 30, Yorkshire Water will start the project to replace the main water pipe that runs under Beestonley Lane in Stainland.

The existing pipe is over 50 years old and in poor condition. It has burst ten times in the last five years and when it bursts, it causes water supply interruptions to local customers, flooding and traffic disruption.

Yorkshire Water’s contract partners, Morrison Utility Services, will take five weeks to lay 580 metres of new pipe.

Beestonley Lane will be closed from just after Broad Royd to the junction with Branch Road to through traffic for the duration of the project.

Yorkshire Water Project Manager, Jayne Blackburn, said “This £150,000 investment will secure water supplies for residents in Stainland and surrounding areas.

“We understand this work will be disruptive to local residents and road users but we thank customers in advance for their patience and apologise for any traffic delays.”

Access will be maintained for pedestrians and fully signed diversion routes will be in place, with traffic diverted around Stainland Road and Saddleworth Road.

If customers’ water supplies will be interrupted during this work, they’ll be notified separately.

It’s unlikely that MUS or Yorkshire Water employees will need access to properties and residents and business owners are being asked to be on their guard against bogus callers while the team is working in the area.
