Leaders visit Salterhebble roadworks to see next phase of work

The leaders of Calderdale Council visited the work site at Salterhebble to take a look at the major transport investment project and to hear about the next phase of work.

Councillor Tim Swift, Leader of the Council, and Councillor Barry Collins, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, visited the site at the A629 to see the progress made

In March this year, new low energy LED street lights have been installed, the installation of catenary (hanging cable) signals, and, the retaining wall continues to grow.

In the coming months, focus will be upon completing construction of the living wall, completion of Dryclough junction remodelling and introducing links to the traffic signals to improve co-ordination and reduce travel delays.

The Council also said from October 2017 to April 2018, journey times have improved by 23 per cent, with inbound journeys improving by 28 per cent and outbound journeys improving by 18 per cent.

Overall, the works aim to reduce car journey times from Huddersfield to Halifax by up to 30 per cent and for buses by up to 50 per cent.

The project will also look to improve facilities for pedestrians by including a 2.5m wide cycle and pedestrian lane northbound to allow for safer journeys.
