THERE HAS been traffic chaos this week due to a road closure.
Planned roadworks along Halifax Old Road at Hipperholme – which continues as Shibden Hall Road in Halifax – have caused long delays for those using the A58 to and from Halifax.
Mansell Construction Services Ltd, previously Strata Construction Ltd, closed the road and footway along The Maltings to build new housing at the Hipperholme site.
The road closure started yesterday and is due to finish on February 18.
The work is part of a 3.7 million design and build contract for Sanctuary Housing Group and will create 24 houses and 15 apartments.
Paul Taylor, Mansell's business development manager for the Yorkshire region, said: "We are pleased to be part of Sanctuary's framework agreement for the construction of general needs accommodation and look forward to working with them to deliver this latest project."
Meanwhile, a hillside road which was closed last year due to a landslip has again been cordoned off.
Prospect Street, off New Bank, Halifax, was shut in April and re-opened in September after the owners, Blackshaw Holdings, undertook extensive repairs.
But inspections have revealed a further risk of a landslide and Calderdale Council engineers have decided that the road, close to St Joseph's Primary School, should be closed again.
Acting head of highways, Dave Tee, said: "Last time the owners carried out work intended to stabilise the land and we will work with them again to try to resolve the problem."
