Traffic warning over Leeds Vaisakhi procession

The procession on Saturday, April 12, is set to start about 10.30am and due to finish around 4.30pm.

It is scheduled to travel along Chapeltown Road, Newton Road, Harehills Lane, Avenue Hill, Harehills Avenue, Chapeltown Road, Sheepscar Street South, Regent Street, Eastgate, The Headrow, Millennium Square, Woodhouse Lane, Sheepscar interchange, before finishing on Chapeltown Road outside the Shiri Kagidhar Temple.

There is likely to be some disruption to traffic flow in Leeds city centre, Chapeltown and Harehills and motorists are advised to try to avoid these areas to prevent delays.

No roads will be specifically closed as police will operate a rolling road block behind the procession to keep traffic moving but delays are expected.

Chief Inspector Matt Davison said: “We are advising motorists to find alternative routes if possible but, if they cannot avoid the area, we would ask them to be patient. We will be working alongside the event organisers in an effort to minimise disruption as much as we can.”
