School nursing services across Calderdale are now provided by Locala Community Partnership.
The service, which was previously supplied by Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation NHS Trust, transfered to Locala – a social enterprise – on April 1.
The changes to the service will include a greater focus on supporting children with long term health conditions and working to support schools in creating health-focused enviornments.
The focus for the service will be on supporting children with long and short term conditions including diabetes, asthma, epilepsy and eczema and providing first aid training in schools.
Richard Palfreeman, Locala’s head of Integrated Children’s Services, said: “We are very pleased to be providing the school nursing service for Calderdale. Our Kirklees service is highly regarded and delivers a first class, pupil-centre, quality service.
“The teams make good use of technology to give pupils ease of access to their support via text messaging and video calls, where appropriate. We are looking forward to welcoming the Calderdale nurses into Locala and through them improving and supporting young people with their health and wellbeing needs in the area.”
