Abusive man tried to head butt conductor after being asked to leave train at Walsden

An “offensive” and “offensive” man tried to head butt a conductor after being asked to leave a train at Walsden Station.

British Transport Police (BTP) has issued a witness appeal following the attempted assault on Friday, June 5, at around 9pm on board the 8.26pm Manchester Victoria to Leeds service.

PC Jeremy Webster, who is leading the investigation for BTP, said: “The conductor, a 23-year-old man from Manchester, was undertaking a ticket check on the service when he approached a man who was using loud, abusive and offensive language whilst arguing on his mobile phone.

“When the conductor asked him to stop as his behaviour was offending others in the carriage, the man became abusive. He was then asked to leave the train at Walsden, where once on the platform he threatened the conductor and continued to hurl abuse at him before attempting to head butt him.

“The conductor, fearing for his safety, managed to avoid being assaulted and got back on the train where he closed the doors. The man continued his tirade of abuse and kicked and punched the train doors as it left the station.

“The member of staff was simply doing his job and attempting to ensure that other passengers on the train had an enjoyable journey; no-one should have to be subjected to such behaviour.

“We would like to speak to the man pictured in connection with this incident, if you recognise him or know his current whereabouts please contact us.”
