In an interview tonight (Sunday) Robin Tuddenham, director of communities at Calderdale Council told the Courier that the council was preparing for a downfall of a potential 40mm worth of rain to hit,

“We’ve had a meeting this afternoon with all the partners” over the weather he said.

Teams will be working across the district from around 3.30am tomorrow morning (Monday). “We’re just making sure we’ve got as many people out as possible,” Mr Tuddenham said.

People need to be aware that they’re taking more time to travel- they may want to consider their travel times. The worst things that people can do is come travelling through surface water, the biggest risk is surface flooding,” he said.

“People might be frightened or they might be vulnerable,” Mr Tuddenham added.

Today the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain in Calderdale.

A developing storm is expected to reach the UK tonight and track northwards across the country tomorrow.

Heavy rain and strong winds will affect many areas with northern parts - such as Calderdale - now probably escaping the worst of the wind but likely to be affected by some very heavy rainfall.

Strong to gale force west or northwest winds could also develop during tomorrow morning though, and the public should be aware of the potential for surface water flooding.
