Death on train line at Sowerby Bridge

TRAINS have been cancelled between Halifax and Hebden Bridge a passenger was hit by a train.

The incident happened at Sowerby Bridge train station at 17.34 and involved the 16.48 between Manchester Victoria and Selby.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “British Transport Police officers were called to the line at Sowerby bridge railway station on Thursday January 5 after a report that a person had been struck by a train.

“Officers from British Transport Police and West Yorkshire Police attended the incident which was reported to police at 17.34 and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

“Paramedics from West Yorkshire Ambulance Service also attended but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Replacement buses are currently in operation but this is extending journey times by up to an hour.

The delays are expected to continue until 8pm.
