In pictures: Two dramatic rescues in two days for search team

Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team got the first of the two calls on Sunday to reports that a man had become stranded at Blackstone Edge.

Twenty two members were mobilised. Because of the remote location, one member was airlifted with rescue equipment directly to the scene by the National Police Air Service (NPAS) Barton.

Once on scene, team members performed a ‘single-man rope rescue’ and lowered the relieved climber down the crag face to solid ground.

A CVSRT spokesperson said: “He then gratefully thanked the team for their assistance and made his way off the moors, safe and well.”

The rescue lasted for three hours.

The second rescue happened at 8am yesterday (Monday) when CVSRT assisted in the search and recovery of a distressed man on the moors above Ogden Water.

The man had slipped down a clough and landed in the stream below. He sustained a minor head injury and mild hypothermia.

As part of the search, a police helicopter from NPAS Barton flew over the moorland, found the man and led paramedics to his location so he could receive treatment.

Because the man’s location wasn’t easily accessible, police and paramedics called on the services of CVSRT to help free him.

Eighteen team members attended and put the man on a stretcher, before loading him on the back of a 4x4. He was then transferred into a waiting ambulance.

The rescue took around 90 minutes.
