Fire and rescue crews from Halifax, Brighouse and Illingworth, the technical unit from Cleckheaton, Calder Valley Mountain Rescue Team, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, police and an ambulance co-ordinated in the multi-agency line rescue at Shibden Head Lane.

Initial reports suggested a man was trapped in the beck but on arrival it was clear the man was stuck down a steep ravine-type banking.

Crews had to use ropes to bring the man to safety.

Rescuers attended the scene at lunchtime today (February 1) and the victim, who was unconscious but breathing, was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary.

Halifax station commander Toby May, said: “Crews and emergency services worked tirelessly on the intense operation.”

It is thought the man was walking alone and a ground search was carried out for other possible injured parties.

His identity and condition is not known at this time.
