Man killed after being hit by train in Hipperholme was a 67-year-old Halifax man

British Transport Police (BTP) and Yorkshire Ambulance Service attended the incident close to Lightcliffe Cricket Club on Wakefield Road at 2.45pm.

A BTP spokesperson said next of kin have been informed.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “We were called to the line close to Hipperholme Tunnel in Hipperholme at 2.45pm on Tuesday, 16 September, after reports a person had been struck by a train.

“Our officers attended, alongside colleagues from Yorkshire Ambulance Service, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

“The Office of Rail Regulation and Rail Accident Investigation Branch have been informed.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The incident caused chaos for rail users, with services cancelled or disrupted for several hours.

Trains on the Manchester Victoria to Leeds line were cancelled, and buses replaced trains between Bradford Interchange and Halifax.
