Opening date announced for multi-storey car park at Halifax's hospital
A new multi-storey car park at Calderdale Royal Hospital will open this weekend.
The car park – which will bring the number of spaces at the Halifax hospital to around 800 – opens at 6am on Saturday.
Chief Executive at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, Rob Aitchison, said: “It is a brilliant facility for our patients and visitors
to Calderdale Royal Hospital and will make a big difference to people using services at the hospital.

“We are opening as soon as we possibly can so that we can support our patients, visitors and colleagues with limited parking at Calderdale Royal Hospital, which we recognise has been challenging.
“It means that people will see work continuing throughout the autumn on landscaping around the car park, which will promote biodiversity.
“It’s been great to see the final touches being put on the new multi-storey in the last few weeks, especially seeing the design come to life, reflecting the rich history of Halifax with a specially designed façade.
“I would like to thank people for their patience and understanding while we have been building the new car park.

“It is an important step in our plans to transform our services across Calderdale and Huddersfield and means that we can soon start construction on our new hospital building at Calderdale Royal Hospital.”
The new car park includes a sheltered cycle parking for more than 80 bikes and a free-to-use cycle maintenance area. There are also electric vehicle chargers on every floor.
All patients and their visitors will be asked to use the new multi-storey car park, which will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Patient and visitor parking will be on floors 0 to 3, with staff parking on floors 4 and above.
Automatic Number Plate Recognition will be in use which will register number plates on arrival.
The Women’s and Children’s car park will close once the multi-storey car park opens. The A&E car park is for drop-offs, including maternity services, and emergency services use only.
Meantime, work is underway on a new building which will double the hospital’s size.
The new building will include a new emergency department - with a dedicated children’s emergency department – and eight new wards, and is due for completion in 2029.
