Police investigate reports man had been hit by train

Commuters faced delays this morning (Thursday) after the main line through Calderdale had to be closed amid reports that a man had been hit by a train.

Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) were sent to the section of the line at Todmorden to investigate the reports at 10am, but there was no trace of an injured man.

A BTP spokesman said: “Our officers were called to the rail line close to the A646 Halifax Road, Todmorden, shortly before 10am on Thursday, 19 June, after a report that a man had been struck by a train.

“We conducted a thorough search of the area, but there was no trace of any injured person.”

Trains between Calderdale, Leeds and Manchester were delayed whilst officers conducted their search.
