Resident’s fury at state of notorious stretch of road
Brookfoot Lane - the road that connects Hipperholme with Southowram- is not on Cabinet’s Highway Maintenance Works £2.3m major roadworks improvements.
Calderdale Council has received thousands of calls from drivers complaining about the state of Calderdale’s crumbling roads.

Hide AdAt Monday’s Cabinet meeting resident and Brighouse Road Safety Committee (BRSC) member, Pat Oates, expressed her fury at Brookfoot Lane not being scheduled for maintenancen in 2015/16.
She said: “The road is absolutely disgusting. I will keep coming here - the road should be on your list.”
At a previous Cabinet meeting Pat said heavy goods vehicles deployed by paving firm Marshalls have difficulty maintaining traction whilst ascending and descdending the lane - causing fears for public safety.
She said: “They [Marshalls], like us, are extremely concerned that sooner rather than later, there will be a serious accident.”

Hide AdCouncillor Peter Caffrey, responsible for Cabinet’s economy, told her the matter was a “contentious issue” and that Cabinet would look further into the point she raised.
One of the major schemes is Southowram where carriageway resurfacing on Law Lane/Bank Top and Cain Lane to Southowram Bank will cost around £450,000.
