HOPES are rising for an early finish to roadworks which have split a community in two.
Ripponden New Bank shut during the day from Monday for a three-week resurfacing programme.
It has involved a lengthy diversion through West Vale, Copley and Sowerby Bridge for those wanting to travel to and from the Barkisland/ Greetland/ Elland areas.
The road remains shut on weekdays from 7am to 6pm – apart from Tuesday when it will remain shut until 11 pm.
But Coun Geraldine Carter said the inconvenience could soon be over as rapid progress had been made through the good weather.
“If the good weather continues the work should now be finished by the end of next week,” she said.
“The contractors have done a fantastic job and the weather has made a difference for them.
“I am sure everybody will be pleased the work isn’t taking as long as planned and I’m sorry for the disruption.”
