Smoke alarm warning after Chinese takeaway fire

Firefighters were called to a fire at a takeaway shop in Queensbury today (Sunday).

Crews from Illingworth and Odsal were called to the Chinese takeaway at 2.30pm on Sand Beds, close to the Black Dyke mills.

When they arrived they found the owner extinguishing the blaze in the kitchen and frying area with some damage being caused to the extractor system.

A spokesperson for Illingwoth fire station said the owner and lived above the property but did not have any smoke alarms.

“It’s vitally important that people regularly check their smoke alarms or get some fitted by ringing their local fire station.”
