Snow brings traffic chaos to Calderdale as gritters get stuck in traffic

The snow has brought travel disruption to Calderdale with delays and closure of schools.

Many schools have closed completely due to the weather causing dangerous and treacherous driving conditions.

Calderdale gritters have also been busy on the roads but some have got caught up in traffic jams as this picture sent into us by Harry Feather shows..

Some of the schools which have closed include Rastrick High School, North Halifax Grammar School, Trinity Sixth Form Centre, Trinity Academy and Lightcliffe Academy.

Highways England has also confirmed there is congestion on the M62 across West Yorkshire because of the weather.

West Yorkshire Police has also issued a warning to drivers saying; "Snow and ice in most of West Yorkshire this morning. Take care and allow extra time if you do have to make a journey. Please clear any snow or ice from your vehicle before setting off."

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service has also posted on social media commenting: "Most of West Yorkshire will be waking up to snow this morning.

"Remember that the current advice is to #StayHome unless essential.

"If you must go out, please take extra care & #StaySafe. Snow & ice can make for treacherous driving conditions."

Metro has also issued advice to bus passengers to check their journeys before they set off.
