The works in West Vale began on January 6 and were initially scheduled to last for six weeks.

They will now remain in place until Sunday March 22. The duration of the works has been extended due to additional works on Saddleworth Road being incorporated to prevent future disruption.

From the Monday March 9 the existing four-way junction will be returned to normal and two-way temporary lights will be used on Stainland Road for the remainder of the works.

Chris Nevison, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “After safety, minimising the impact of road works on our customers is our top priority.

“We apologise to all our customers for the continued delays in West Vale. Our teams are working to make sure we complete these works as safely and quickly as possible’’.

Both projects are part of NGN’s ongoing investment in the gas infrastructure in the area.

It involves replacing just over 800m of existing metal gas mains with new, more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a safe, reliable and continuous supply of gas to customers in Elland Bridge for many years to come.

NGN’s Customer Care Team will be on-site throughout all the planned work to provide updates to affected businesses and residents.

Anyone that smells gas or suspects carbon monoxide should call the National Gas Emergency Service immediately on 0800 111 999. This line is in operation 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
