Updated: Man dies after being hit by train in Todmorden

A man died after being hit by a train in Todmorden yesterday (Monday).

The incident happened at around 3.50pm in the Summit East Tunnel,

Police are not treating the man’s death as suspicious and are trying to formally identify him.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “We were called shortly after 3.50pm on Monday, April 28, following reports that a person had been struck by a train at Summit East Tunnel, Todmorden.

“Our officers attended, alongside colleagues from the West Yorkshire Police and North West Regional Ambulance Service, and discovered a man had been struck and killed by a train.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and officers are now working to formally identify the deceased.

“We will then assist in the compilation of a report for the coroner.”

Trains were cancelled between Hebden Bridge and Rochdale and a bus replacement service was in place. The lines were handed back to Network Rail at 5.55pm and normal service had resumed by 8pm.
