Video: Firefighters put out bonfire of fridges and mattresses

Residents in Southowram decided to light a bonfire last night (Thursday) and load it with fridges and mattresses.

Firefighters from Brighouse were called to put out the fire on New Street at 8.47pm, despite protestations from residents.

Brighouse watch manager Nigel Dodd said: “When we arrived to put it out there were a number of disgruntled residents who had decided to stack fridges, mattresses and household waste into the middle of a green area and torch it.”

The crew used a main jet and hose reel to extinguish the fire due to the size and nature of the items that had been put on it.

They were at the scene for around an hour.

Nobody was injured.
