After receiving a call from West Yorkshire Police to help locate the male, the Mytholmroyd-based team worked with Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association, The West Yorkshire Police Helicopter and Yorkshire Air Ambulance before completing their mission.

A team spokesperson said: “Late Thursday night Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team were contacted by the West Yorkshire Police to search Ilkley Moor for a missing vulnerable male.

“After searching throughout the night and into the next morning, we then scaled up the search and called upon the support of five search and rescue dogs, as well as Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association.

“The West Yorkshire Police helicopter also attended the late night search using their thermal imaging camera and returned again at first light. Whilst carrying out a visual search they spotted the casualty laying on the ground below ‘Rocky Valley’ and informed the nearest search team who headed into the location.

“Other mountain rescue members where then dispatched to the site and began treating the casualty. Due to the nature of his injuries and the fact he had been out all night in cold weather we requested the help of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance who landed close by and once loaded flew the casualty to hospital for further treatment.”

The team thanked everybody involved in the search.
