Mansoor Akhtar, 25 from Huddersfield was found guilty by the jury of one offence of sexual activity with a child and admitted supplying the girl with cannabis. He was acquitted on a further offence of sexual activity with a child.

Jailing him for a total of six years, Judge Marson said he had been convicted of having sex with the girl at a B and B in Bradford on one occasion and it was an aggravating he had used no protection.

He said the victim of their offences had suffered severe psychological harm. “You two are not solely responsible for that damage but when you abused her she was obviously damaged and doing what you did contributed to the harm she suffered.”

Another defendant Fasil Mahmood 37 of Halifax was found not guilty by the jury of sexual activity with a child but convicted of supplying her with cannabis and was jailed for 10 months.

The judge commended officers involved in the inquiry which was difficult because of the number of allegations and difficulties in identifying perpetrators but said he hoped no future victim of child abuse would have to go through such a long process of investigation.

Two other men have to be sentenced at a later date for offences on the schoolgirl. Furqaan Gafar, 31 from Derby admitted a charge of sexual activity with a child. Another man from Halifax who cannot be identified was found guilty by the jury yesterday one charge of sexual activity with a child.
