Firefighters rescued two elderly women who became stuck in a bog in Rastrick today.
The women had been walking across a field on the Kirklees Way on Cote Lane, off New Hey Road, at about noon on Friday when they sank into the mud.
One of the women, aged 77, became trapped up to her knees and couldn’t climb out.
Her friend – who was partially stuck - managed to raise the alarm on her mobile phone at about noon today (Friday).
A crew from Elland arrived at the scene and managed to pull them free.
Crew commander Matthew Green said: “They were walking across a field and because of all the rain and the flooding, it had turned into a bog. The suction of the mud was just holding them fast.
“It took the brute force of three firefighters to pull the lady free.
“They’d been in the mud a couple of hours before they called us – I think they thought they could get out. “
He said the pair were uninjured but tired by their ordeal.
