Two middle aged roadies are fuelling a £10 fundraising trip from Yorkshire to Gibraltar in a Land Rover in ten days.
The Middle Aged Road Trip is being backed by a host of celebrities who are lending their support to actors Dan Coll, 53, of Brighouse, and Dan Carey, 44, of, Hebden Bridge, and their chosen charity beneficiary Samaritans.
The famous faces behind the fundraising adventure include former Coronation Street star Kevin Kennedy, model Charlotte Dawson, EastEnders Cheryl Fergison and Melissa Suffield, Blue Peter celebrity Peter Purves, musician Victoria Aitken, actor Dean Sullivan, X Factor star Frankie Cocozza, actor John Blundell, comedian Mike McLean, snooker referee Michaela Tabb and others.
The duo will depart from Hebden Bridge tomorrow, Sunday October 5, at 4pm, when they will leave for Manchester, Dover, Paris, Spain and eventually their final destination, Gibraltar. At each destination, celebrities will help raise cash to get the lads to the next leg of their journey by taking part in tasks.
The climax of their road trip will culminate on October 15 when the actors put on a show at Mackintosh Theatre, Gibraltar which will be streamed live online www.themiddleagedroadtrip.com
Mr Coll, who has had acting roles in TV shows including Emmerdale and in the recently released film Northern Soul, has suffered with depression and wants to raise awareness and funds for Samaritans which helped him when he was at his lowest ebb, he says.
“Dan and I have worked together over the years and it was something we just wanted to do. I’ve got through a tough time where I’ve realised that life is too short and so we’ve decided to follow our dream whilst raising awareness and funds at the same time.
“We’ve no idea if we will make it and I’m sure there will be some disasters along the way but that’s what makes it exciting. We are so greatful to our celebrities for their support,” he said.
