Two rescued from Queensbury house fire

A couple were rescued by firefighters today(Thur) after a blaze at a terraced house at Scarlet Heights, Queensbury.

A 40-year-old woman sleeping on a settee awoke to find the lounge on fire shortly after 1 am.

She went upstairs to wake her partner and they both became trapped upstairs.

They were able to throw the front door key from a bedroom window down down to firefighters who entered and put out the blaze.

The woman and man, aged 53, were then led down the stairs to safety and they were taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary as a precaution and are ok.

The property was heavily smoke-logged and the fire was contained in an corner of the lounge.

Odsal watch commander Salley Evers said the couple had a lucky escape.

The cause is being investigated and she said it was possible a candle light set fire to Christmas decorations.
