Calderdale museums set to stay closed until at least mid July

Museums and art galleries across Calderdale will stay shut after Government permitted these venues to reopen.

Education chiefs at Halifax’s attraction Eureka, on Discovery Road, have said the tourist spot will not re-open until the team are ‘confident’ it has ‘effective measures in place to deliver a great day out, within this new context of social distancing’.

Calderdale Council-run venues across Calderdale, including Bankfield Museum, Shibden Hall, and Brighouse Art Gallery, are also set to stay shut until further notice.

“We are therefore not planning to reopen until early August.

“We’re just not ready to reopen in July and we wouldn’t be doing right by our visitors, or our team if we rushed to open our doors too soon.”

The council has also reiterated it will not be re-opening its public buildings.

Venues such as Shibden Hall, Bankfield Museum, Heptonstall Museum, and Smith Art Gallery, in Brighouse, will all remain shut after closing on March 20.

A spokeswoman from the council said: “The Council is reviewing the implications of recent Government announcements and will advise of any changes to our services as appropriate.

“This will all be undertaken in the context of the ongoing risks to public health relating to Covid-19.

“We will announce any further changes through our communication channels.
