Latest figures show coronavirus cases in Calderdale on rise

NHS Digital summary data shows that between September 27 and October 3, the borough had a case rate of 132.8 per 100,000 of people (279 cases), 40 per cent up on the previous seven day period.

In the previous seven day period the rate was 77.1 per 100,000.

Calderdale Council’s Director of Public Health, Debs Harkins, said on social media that reported technical issues, which have now been resolved, mean reporting over coming days would include some extra cases and has advised people to follow guidelines including avoiding crowds, close contact and confined spaces.

Anyone who has symptoms or tests positive, or someone in their household or contacts have tested positive should stay at home.

The September 27-October 3 figures show a 33 per cent decrease in triages – the number of calls from people who think they may have coronavirus to the various NHS lines – with 323, a triage rate of 154 per 100,000.

Calderdale was one of a number of areas first put into local restrictions on July 31.

Calder Valley Parliamentary constituency wards had been allowed out of these restrictions on September 2 but returned to them with Halifax constituency wards on September 22.

The Government’s figures show the number of cases in each area in Calderdale between September 25 to October 1 were as follows.

Todmorden West and Cornholme, 7; Todmorden East and Walsden, 4; Hebden Bridge, 11; Mytholmroyd and Cragg Vale, 6; Ripponden, Rishworth and Barkisland, 14; Greetland and Stainland, 10; Elland, 18; Rastrick West, 13; Rastrick East, 7;

Brighouse, 5; Clifton and Bailiff Bridge, 5; Hipperholme, 12; Northowram and Shelf, 14; Central Halifax and Boothtown, 10; Sowerby Bridge, 7; Sowerby and Luddenden Foot, 6; Norton Tower and Mount Tabor, 4; Savile Park, 12; Skircoat Green, 7; Southowram and Siddal, 10; Pellon East, 18; Pellon West and Highroad Well, 5; King Cross, 11; Wheatley and Ovenden West, 8; Ovenden East, 8; Mixenden, 3; and Illingworth and Ogden, 9.

The Government figures by local area are classed as Middle Super Output Areas – each has an average population of around 7,200.
