McDonald's was one of thousands of retailers to close its doors in March as part of the UK-wide lockdown to slow the spread of coronavirus.

But today, the Halifax restaurants on Salterhebble Hill, in Halifax, and Brighouse's drive-thru on Bradford Road are expecting open drive-thru service to the public 11am onwards.

A spokesperson for McDonald's said they were anticipating "high demand", and would close drive thru lanes if deemed necessary.

In a statement, the chain said: "Social distancing has been introduced in the kitchens and service areas to help create a safe working environment for restaurant teams.

"We're glad to be back but it will look a little different and may take a little longer, so please bear with us.

"We have fewer employees in our kitchens to enable our teams to social distance and work safely

"We will have a limited menu (no breakfast or Shakes for now) and will open for reduced hours (11am-10pm).

"We encourage you to use contactless payment methods and cap your spend at £25.

"We’re delighted to be returning to communities across the UK and Ireland, thank you for your continued support and patience.

"We look forward to seeing you soon."
