Updated: Man dies in Halifax house fire

THE BODY of a man in his 60s was discovered by firefighters in Halifax on Friday night.

West Yorkshire Police, who had been investigating the cause of the fire along with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, said this afternoon (Saturday) that there were no suspicious circumstances in relation to the blaze.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine the cause of death of the man, who has not yet been named.

Emergency services were called to the house on Rhodes Street at around 8.15pm after a smoke alarm went off.

The body of a man, believed to be in his 60s was found inside the property.

Detective Chief Inspector Warren Stevenson, said: “Sadly the occupant of the property, a man believed to be in his 60s was found deceased. There are no suspicious circumstances to the incident and enquiries are ongoing.”
