UPDATED: Man taken to hospital after flat fire in Halifax - cause of flames under investigation

A man in his 70s was taken to hospital after a flat fire in Halifax this afternoon.

Crews from Illingworth and Elland were called to Wheatley Court, Mixenden Road, Mixenden, at 3.19pm today to a blaze in the third floor flat.

The man, suffering from smoke inhalation, was given oxygen therapy by fire crews and taken to hospital by ambulance.

Fire crews said the flames were contained in the living room of the flat.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

The man had been alerted by his smoke alarm and was outside when firefighters arrived.
