Todmorden, Mytholmroyd, Hebden Bridge, Brighouse, Elland and Sowerby Bridge were all hit by flooding as rain continued to fall throughout Boxing Day.

Calderdale Council has said around 2,000 homes and 200 businesses have been affected.

In Mytholmroyd, residents were evacuated as the village was cut off by several feet of flood water.

The centre of the town was completely under water, with residents worried levels would rise further as the rain continued to fall.

Prime Minister David Cameron has promised to “do whatever is needed” to help people in those areas affected by the floods.

And in Calderdale, communities have rallied around to offer help where it is needed and a flood relief appeal has hit the £50,000 mark - to donate visit localgiving.com/appeal/Flooding.

Calderdale Council said it is still in a state of emergency response and a meeting will be held tomorrow to coordinate donations and volunteers.

Rest centres have been opened at North Bridge Leisure Centre and Ebenezer Church in central Halifax, Hebden Bridge Town Hall and Todmorden Town Hall.

The River Calder at Brighouse, River Calder and River Ryburn at Central Sowerby Bridge, River Calder and Cragg Brook at Mytholmroyd, River Calder at Central Mytholmroyd, River Calder and Hebden Water at Hebden Bridge, River Calder at Eastwood, Callis Bridge and Charlestown, River Calder at Todmorden.

The A646 is closed between Hebden Bridge train station and Shaw Wood Road Todmorden, to allow the clearing of flood debris.

Elland Road, between Exley Lane and Casa is also closed.
