VIDEO: Brighouse remembering the 1940s in style

Locals and history lovers have been getting into the swing of the Brighouse 1940s weekend.

Organised by the Brighouse Business Initiative the town centre has been taken over with 40s memorabilia and re-enactments this weekend.

A WWII Dakota carrier will be flying over the town while there will be an enlarged exhibition of military vehicles and hardware.

But it’s not just the military side of the 40s that’s being remembered.

This year’s event commemorates the 70th anniversary of VE Day, the end of the war in Europe, and the organisers have focussed on the music and general euphoria of that year to bring a party atmosphere to the event.

A remembrance service was held at 10.30am yesterday, with another taking place today (Sunday) at 1pm in Commercial Street.

This weekend also sees the return of the hugely popular variety show at the Civic, with a matinee performance as well as an extended evening show, and a dance at the Assembly Rooms featuring the Glenn Miller sound of NyteBeat.

On Sunday night an extra dance has been scheduled for the first time as a grand finale, featuring the popular Calderdale Big Band.
