The Mayor of Calderdale, Pat Allen, as well as representatives from the Halifax and Ovenden branches of the Royal British Legion and the Yorkshire Volunteers were present at the Southgate precinct service.

Crowds gathered as the Last Post was sounded and a two-minute silence was observed in remembrance of those who fell in conflict.

Caroline Pell, chairwoman of the Halifax branch of the Royal British Legion, said: “Services like this are very important, especially this year and it was wonderful to see so many people turn out.”
