Video: Final goodbye to Calderdale man tragically killed on holiday

A community came to a standstill today (Friday) to pay its respects to a former sweet shop owner and football referee.

Bob Leedham, who owned Something Sweet in Hebden Bridge and was also chairman of the Halifax Sunday Football League, died after being knocked off his bike in Thailand in a suspected hit-and run.

His funeral was held this morning in Halifax Minster in front of friends, family and loving wife Gemma, followed by a burial at Luddenden Cemetery.

Speaking at the funeral, where everyone was encouraged to wear red to mark Bob’s love of Liverpool Football Club, his son Rob said: “He was never selfish with his time. He would do anything for anyone. He was without doubt happy and enjoying life.”

Before the funeral, Gemma and some other members of Bob’s family went to Hebden Bridge to speak to some of the residents and business owners. The funeral cortege started at Something Sweet, located in Bridge Gate.
