The canal clean-up will take place next Thursday (August 11) and is the area’s seventh tidy -up in the run up to the festival.

The main objectives of the clean-up are to remove debris and overgrowth from around the canal banks and to make the area look its finest ready for the festival and all the visitors.

The equipment required will be provided by the Canal and River Trust and the local Harbour Master has arranged for a barge to come along, allowing volunteers to spruce up even the difficult to reach banks on the water’s edge.

Local businesses are on board and will be supporting the event by providing refreshments for volunteers and local restaurant Prego will be providing a light lunch with teas and coffees once the job is done.

Lidia Shinwell, event organiser and director of Prego said: “It is a great community event and brilliant for families!”

“Certificates for all children who participate will be provided and the press will be there to show the fantastic community we have in Brighouse.”
