VOLUNTEERS have been continuing their quest to clean up the canal in Sowerby Bridge.
A team of 12 volunteers hit the towpath at the Calder and Hebble Navigation to improve the canal in Mearclough.
Volunteers have cut back brambles and ivy and prepared areas for wildflowers and bulb planting.
They will also paint benches and clear litter towards the Whaft in the next clean-up day on Friday March 30.
Local volunteer Diane Richardson said “The volunteer group is carrying out some important work and it really is a win-win situation. As a result of the volunteers’ efforts the canals will be cleaner and more attractive to people and wildlife but hopefully those taking part will also have a great sense of achievement by helping to care for an important part of the town’s heritage.”
Volunteers will meet at 10am on Friday on the towpath at the junction of Walker Lane and Canal Road. For more information contact Lucy.Dockray@britishwaterways.co.uk.
