The new Vue Cinema will take the concept of big screen entertainment to the next level when it opens next Friday.
The nine screen complex, which is an integral part of the £70million Broad Street Plaza, will open its doors for the first time to coincide with the launch of the new James Bond film, Skyfall.
As well as boasting Sony Digital Cinema 4K projectors, which will offer four times the image resolution of standard 2K projectors, Vue have also installed a 400 seat VueXtreme auditorium - the first in the north of England.
The screen itself, which is the height of two double decker buses and twice as wide as a regular screen, is supported by the Vue Profound Sound system, a professionally mixed audio system, as Vue attempt to compete the the IMAX cinema in Bradford.
But as well as style, Vue are promising substance, and say they will show a range of pictures from high budget 3D blockbusters to ‘alternative content’, live sporting and music events and Bollywood movies.
The cinema will also provide 40 jobs - five full time and 35 part-time, and Vue say they received over 230 applications in the one week the vacancies were advertised.
Paul Denbow, general manager of the Vue Halifax, said: “For us, it’s all about service.
“We want people to be able to see the pictures they want with fantastic quality images and sound.
“Halifax has gone 10 years without and I’m really excited about Vue opening its doors to the public,” he said.
The finishing touches are still being worked on ahead of the red tape opening, with 1,400 seats, screens and refreshment counters all beingand installed.
Tim Richards, CEO of Vue Entertainment, said: “We are incredibly excited about the opening of our new nine screen cinema in Halifax, as we know that there is a huge cinema following in the town.
“Vue Halifax will have the latest state-of-the-art projection technology and the only big screen cinema experience in West Yorkshire,” he said.
Vue say their pricing structure will offer options to all sections of the community.

Among the schemes which will offer reduced prices are ‘Kids AM’, ‘Teen Pricing’, ‘Family Ticket’, ‘Senior Screening’, ‘Alternative Content’, ‘Super Saver Tuesdays’.
The cinema also supports Orange Wednesday and Nectar points offers.
