MORE than two dozen walkers from across Calderdale wound their way to a hidden wildlife haven.
The group started their walk at Mytholmroyd station. They then climbed up to Dauber Bridge into Cragg Vale.
Julian Harber, footpaths officer of Mytholmroyd Walkers’ Association, led his merry followers into Broadhead Clough – designated a wildlife reserve in 1981.
“For virtually all the walkers, the nature reserve was a brand new experience, and it was wonderful to introduce everyone to this protected woodland. The almost continuous birdsong was a real treat for us all to hear,” he said.
Their youngest walker was Luca Powell from Pye Nest. She said: “My favourite was going across the stepping-stones bridge and feeding the ducks.
“I looked out for snakes – but we didn’t see any at all,” she said.
The next chance to join the group is on July 2. The walkers will leave Mytholmroyd station at 11am following in the footsteps of the Cragg Vale Coiners.
