A new chapter in the future of fire stations in the area will begin as they are put up for sale on the open market.

Both Brighouse and Elland sites are now available to buy with independent firm of Chartered Surveyors and Commercial Property Consultants Walker Singleton.

DPP Leeds have secured outline planning permission for a residential scheme of up to nine new homes on the site of the former Brighouse fire station in Lister Street.

The planning consultants said the majority of dwellings will be three storey in scale, reflecting the height and scale of those found within the surrounding locality.

A total of 65 local residents within the immediate vicinity were consulted for a period of two weeks on the proposed development, along with the Councillors for the Brighouse ward.

A price is set to revealed this week.

The former Batley fire station in Carlinghow Lane which has outline permission for 11 houses on the site is on the market with Walker Singleton for £425,000.

Offers are also being invited for Elland fire station in South Lane.

That has the potential for development or an alternative use and is on the market for around£275,000.
