Wartime spirit takes audiences back to London in the Blitz

Rehearsals for the forthcoming show ‘Blitz’ are proceeding apace at Southgate Church in Elland.

The show, which starts on November 27, is set during the Blitz in London during the second world war.

Publicity officer Richard Wilkinson said: “Members of the cast are confident of their lines and are being put through their paces by a competent direction team headed by Helen Alsancak and Wilma Paton.

“The cast are not only from the church but also from the wider Elland area and Brooksbank school. All are doing their best to learn a cockney accent!

“ The show is being given its final polish before going live, with stage crew and backroom team ably assisting the cast on stage. We know that the audience will enjoy an amazing night’s entertainment, listening to famous wartime songs and Churchill’s rousing oratory while our cast avoid bombs and each other in their quest to survive the war.”

The cast includes Laura Womersley, Jemima Mitchell and Graham Alsancak.

With music and lyrics by Oliver! writer Lionel Bart, the show will run to November 30.

Tickets at £8/£6 are available from Bramley’s estate agents, Elland, or from the hotline on 07773 733102. The show starts at 7.15pm.

Mr Wilkinson said: “We know the audience will be enchanted as a wartime romance unfolds on stage so don’t miss out on the chance to buy tickets.”
