WATCH: Family locked in house after cruel raid

A callous thief raided a family's home and locked them in the house before stealing their car, packed with baby equipment.

Sarah and Matthew Nichols, their four children, including six-month old twins, were asleep at their home on Hainsworth Moor Drive, Queensbury, when a burglar struck in the early hours of Monday morning.

CCTV footage has captured the suspect locking the patio door behind him after swiping car keys, a mobile phone and the couple’s ten-year-old daughter’s sandwich box from the kitchen - which the couple suspect he thought was an expensive handbag.

The family’s Nissan Qashqai+2 was stolen, along with a pram, carry seats and other baby products which had been left in the vehicle.

Now, the family hope someone with information will come forward so they can find the culprit.

Mrs Nichols, 38, who is currently on maternity leave, said: “I came down the stairs and saw there was no car there, I was in a state of shock.

“He came in through a kitchen window, picked a mobile phone up, keys, and also picked up my daughter’s sandwich box, which looks like a black patent handbag.

“You can see him locking the patio door behind him as he leaves - the police think he has done that so if anybody woke up, we couldn’t chase after him.

“All the babies’ bits and pieces were in the car, a car seat, pram. It’s shocking really - to have someone in your house when you have four children.

“If you came in the house you could see immediately that we have kids.”

Officers are appealing to anyone who was in the area overnight Sunday in to Monday and may have seen or heard anything suspicious, or who has any information, to speak to the police via 101, quoting 13160045574.
