Organisers welcomed street performers, food stalls and musicians to their celebrations, twelve months on from its grand re-opening and a that first peek of the £19m restoration.

It coincided with Yorkshire Day, of course, during which people from across the white rose county join to celebrate all things Yorkshire.

Liz Kenny, who attended the event with her young family, said:

“It's great, Yorkshire Day should be a bank holiday, look how many people are here it may as well be!

“It's been so well organised as well, very impressive.

“We've enjoyed meeting loads of people I've never met and catching up with familiar faces. I'm honestly shocked by how many people are here”
