Water pipe upgrades to cause delays

Engineering specialists, Morrison Utility Services, will replace 750 metres of main water pipes under Bradford Road and Victoria Road.

The existing pipes are ageing and prone to bursting. Together they have burst 14 times in the last four years.

Brigitte Sorby, Project Manager for Yorkshire Water said: “We understand that this work will be disruptive to local residents and road-users. We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and for any delays to your journey.

“Please be assured we’ll do our best to complete this essential work as quickly as possible. It’s important that we reduce the risk of these water pipes bursting in the future, so we can secure water supplies for our customers.”

The existing cast iron water pipe was laid around 63 years ago and will be replaced with more robust plastic pipe.

This scheme will take around seven weeks to complete. The team started work in Victoria Road this and will move into Bradford Road on August 10.

In order to protect the safety of the on-site team and road users, temporary two-way traffic lights will be in place whilst the company work in Bradford Road. Four way temporary traffic lights will be in place when they are working at the junction of Bradford Road and Wakefield Road (A649).

In order to reduce disruption, this work is being carried out in the school summer holidays and the traffic lights will be manned at peak times.
