AS the clock chimes towards midnight tomorrow, one Halifax soldier may be slightly distracted from the countdown.
Lance Corporal James Beck 24, from Wheatley, is currently stationed in Afghanistan.
James, a communications specialist, has been in the army for eight years and is currently serving with 1 Armoured Division Signal’s Regiment in Germany.
He has travelled all over the world including taking part in the Haiti relief effort. He is a communications specialist and has travelled all over the world with the Army.
He grew his moustache during Movember - the month where men across the world grow facial hair for male cancer charities.
“When everyone else finished at the end of the month I decided to carry on until the end of the year and in an effort to raise even more money, instead of shaving it off, I said the largest donor could wax it off.” said James.
“Being deployed to Afghanistan really brings home what a good job they do for soldier who have been injured as a result of their service.”
James hopes to raise £1,000 for Help for Heroes.
“My friends and colleges in Lashkar Gah have been very generous,” he said.
His parents, Joy and Peter, from Wheatley said: “At first we were worried about him being in Afghanistan but support him in his choice to join the Army. We are really proud of what he has achieved”
