Now the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice from 3pm today (Monday) into tomorrow morning.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Many areas will be affected by occasional showers of rain, hail, sleet and snow, with clear spells in between leading to frost and icy surfaces.

"Further snow accumulations of 2-6 cm are expected over parts of Scotland, mainly in the west at elevations above 200 m. 1-3 cm may affect higher routes in Northern Ireland and northern England."

The weather forecast

Tonight will remain windy and cold with a frost. Plenty of clear spells, with just a few wintry showers, mainly on hills in the west. Snow melt refreezing giving some icy patches. Minimum temperature -1 °C.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) will be less windy, though cold in a fresh northwesterly breeze. A few snow showers could make their way across from the west, but mostly dry with bright spells. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

This period looks predominantly cold, with a few snow showers, but some bright spells. Potential for some more general rain or snow to develop at times.
